Special Character - Easter Liturgy

As part of the Easter Liturgy a group of Year 13 students re-enacted the Washing of the Feet, the Last Supper and the Garden of Gethsemane. We were delighted to have our guests from the Special Character Review Team with us to share in this celebration.

Term Two Reminders

WINTER UNIFORM
Regulation winter uniform must be worn during Term 2 and Term 3 of the school year. This includes long sleeved blouses and navy tights/knee high socks for the girls and the College tie for all students.

PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Parents are now able to book Parent/Teacher Interviews on line and a simple "How To" handout was posted with student reports and the Redcastle Roundup at the end of Term 1.
Visit www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter the "school event code" found on the handout. Once you have entered the student details it's as simple as selecting the teachers and times required.

Waitaki Drive To Survive Expo

WAITAKI DRIVE TO SURVIVE EXPO
Friday 13 May - 1pm start
At the Oamaru Fire Station, Thames St entrance

The Drive To Survive Expo has been developed to educate young drivers and increase awareness about road safety. Tragically vehicle crashes are the leading cause of unintentional death and injury among young people under 25 years of age.

The day will consist of a coordinated programme with interactive activities for students to work on through the afternoon. Tony Dudley and Victim Support present to offer support where it is needed.

Top Ten Team

As a result of their recent Maadi Cup success our Rowing Eight Girls have been presented with a commemorative badge as one of the Top Ten finishing teams. Congratulating them on their efforts is proud TIC Rowing, Miss Bridget Gudsell. (absent from photo -Bethany Robertson).

Bishop's Shield Success

The annual Bishop’s Shield Competition was hosted by Verdon College in Invercargill. St Kevin’s was well represented by all those who travelled for the event and by taking the win in the Senior Debate (pictured above) and Senior Drama we secured a first equal placing with St Peter’s College. Congratulations to all of our Bishop’s Shield Team but especially to Oliver Hanning and Danielle Trewavas who both took the Best Actor titles in their relative sections and also to Jibi Kunnethedam who won Best Speaker in the debates.

Special Character

Tutor Group Liturgies have been based around Whanau-Family this term. We have been looking at our tangata whenua and think about how our Dominican and Edmund Rice charismsa re lived in the school community today. Students have been challenged to consider the contribution they make to their families, their Tutor Groups family, their class, their school family and the wider community.

Bishop's Shield Preview

Staff and students of the College were treated to a preview performance from the St Kevin's College Bishop's Shield Team at a special assembly held yesterday afternoon. We wish them all the very best as they head down to Invercargill this coming weekend.

Maadi Cup 2011


Congratulations to our Rowing Crews who competed at the Maadi Cup Regattta in Karapiro last week. Our St Kevin's College Crews competed to a exceptionally high standard, making 4 A Finals. The hard work, and commitment to a tough training schedule has been rewarded.

Games And Puzzles

Oamaru nights are drawing in and the Hostel are interested in receiving donations of board games and puzzles to entertain during the colder winter months. If you have something that you think might be appropriate the school office will be happy to pass these on for you.

20/20 CRICKET against Wataki Boys on Wednesday
1st XI chasing 128 lost by 25 runs. Tim O'Malley took 3 for 11.
2nd XI chasing 99 runs and won by 9 runs
3rd XI chasing 150 runs lost by 5 runs - Hamish Robertson 51 runs and Jibi Kunnethedam 45 not out.

Boys Soccer 1st XI
Had there 1st game on Saturday in Timaru. They had a 5 - 1 loss against a well drilled senior Timaru team.

Special Character - Stations Of The Cross

Stations of the Cross are a traditional Catholic Lenten devotion. Our grateful thanks to Helen Mulheron for organising and leading our Wednesday lunchtime Stations of the Cross during Lent. Helen has been introducing our students to this traditional form of prayer for several years.

Bishop's Shield 2011

The annual Bishop's Shield will be hosted this year by Verdon College and our team will travel to Invercargill next Friday for the weekend long competition. We wish them all the very best and know that they will represent the Special Character of St Kevin's College well. Good luck!
